when I have had a unnecessarily vocal parent on the sidelines relative to my
ref work, I have taken the first break in the game action to speak (very
quietly, so as to not attract attention) with that team&#8217;s coach and ask that
s/he have a conversation with the parents as a whole and let them know how any
&#8220;referee issues&#8221; need to be addressed &#8211; that being only
through the coach to the Ref, and not by anyone else on the sidelines. I also
let him/her know that it will end up in the game report for the league if it
continues. That usually handles it adequately. <o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-left:.5in'><span style='font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif"'><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p></span></p>

<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-left:.5in'><span style='font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif"'>Usually
this type of thing is not a big deal at all, nor a really &#8220;hostile&#8221;
situation from the parent&#8217;s end. But it is really important to establish
the general &#8220;etiquette of the game&#8221; for all involved &#8211;
especially early in a young player&#8217;s career. As the kids get older and
the games get more and more competitive/heated, I have seen how bad behavior
can naturally become much more prevalent by all involved (players, coaches, and
parents). So the more we can do to (in a constructive/positively way) help
guide them early on as how to behave on the playing field, the better.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
