Region 45 referee community,

I want to thank everyone for their prayers and kind wishes. I really
appreciate everyone's support.

This is my first time back on email after 9 days. There were over 345
emails waiting for me today, and typing is still not easy to do. I
apologize in advance that I will not be able to respond to every email
or voicemail in a timely way (some perhaps not at all). /Please /go
easy on the emails and phone calls for a few more weeks.

_*What happened?*_

This is assembled from others' descriptions. I still have no memory of
the actual accident.Count me an eager volunteer spokesman for correctly
wearing a good bicycle helmet during 100% of every bike ride!

On Tuesday morning 9/22, toward the end of a long morning bike ride with
several friends, we approached a "T" intersection where we were to turn
left. At that point we were on a bridge crossing a ravine, with some
bridge/pavement grade mismatch. As I turned left coming off the bridge,
I apparently caught my front wheel in the bridge/pavement expansion
joint gap. My bike came to a rather abrupt halt, but its rider did not.
I flipped over the handlebars, landing at various moments on my
head/helmet, shoulder, left chest, left hip, and knees. I was knocked
out and remember nothing of the crash, the ambulance ride, or the ER.
First thing I remember at all is one of the times I was sliding into the
CAT scanner.

Subdural hematoma, broken left clavicle (collar bone), seven broken
ribs, lots of bruises and road rash.

_*Status 9/30*_

I'm home after 5 days in Valley Medical Center. Improving a little bit
each day, but a long slow recovery period ahead. Outlook not yet clear
for resuming running/refereeing - likely 6 weeks, possibly more.

I hope to have a bit more rapid return to administrative duties, but
email responses will be slower than usual.
