A collection of feedback and useful tidbits reported by referees and
mentors after the first two weekends.

Bring lots of water on Saturday, it's expected to be quite warm.

Enjoy the games!

Beau

_*(1) Don't Wash That Ref Badge!*_

The glue that holds the velcro to your referee patch, or even the
backing of the patch itself, may dissolve. Take the patch off before
throwing the shirt in the laundry.

_*(2) AR Flag Signals*_

Always stop, face the field, /then /signal with the flag. Don't
wave the flag while running - the referee may have a very hard time
figuring out what you are trying to tell him.

Refresh your memory of the correct AR flag signals on pages 88-90 of
your Laws of the Game booklets.

_*(3) Whistle More Loudly*_

Check with your ARs (or the coaches on the sidelines, in U7/U8)
about whether you are whistling loudly enough to be heard clearly
and consistently. Your whistle may sound loud to you, but it's only
a few inches from /your /ear. The sound needs to travel a long way
to reach all the players on the field, amidst all the noise and
    confusion of the match.

_*(4) Goal Post Positioning*_

Especially with the "portable" goals, check before each match that
the back of the goal post is aligned with the outside edge of the
goal line. That provides the AR with the best view for "all of the
ball completely across all of the line", when determining that a
goal has been scored (or not!).

And always, always, always check that the goals are properly anchored!

_*(5) Goalkeeper Second Touch*_

The goalkeeper may play the ball like any other player - with feet,
head, chest - at _/any /_time, anywhere on the field. The goalkeeper
may use her hands only within her own penalty area. (The goalkeeper
can even dribble the ball from outside the penalty area into the
penalty area, then pick up the ball.)

But once the goalkeeper has controlled the ball with her hands, then
released the ball back into play (by punt, throw, or even accidental
drop), then she may not touch the ball with her hands again until
the ball has touched another player.

Thanks all for now.
