One clarification/exception: on a goal kick (or /any /free kick by the
defense taken from within their own penalty area), the ball is* *not in
play until it leaves the penalty area.
Even when the defense takes a quick kick, if the ball is touched by /any
/player (either team) before it leaves the penalty area, the kick must
be retaken.
