Many in the AYSO parent community are new to soccer, and find some of
the rules (the "the laws of the game") unclear. Others may have /played
/soccer and be aware of the rules from a player's perspective, but are
not familiar with the formal laws of the game.
If this describes you, then please read on!
_*Simplified Laws:*_
A concise explanation of the laws of the game:

You probably don't much care about the size of the field or the
players' equipment. But it is useful to understand what are the
actual fouls and how the referee exercisies judgement every time she
calls a foul.
_*Offside (U10 and older):*_
In soccer, being in an /offside position/ is, by itself, not an
offense. It becomes an offense only when a player in an offside
position /participates in active play/.
This short animation explains all of the factors required for an
offside offense:

and helps you understand why it takes a three-person referee team,
working together, to effectively manage a U10 or older soccer match.
The 2009 season is off to a great start. I hope these resources will
help you enjoy the game!
